Xoom Wifi 3G first tablet 10.1 “Motorola is called XOOM. You might think that nothing goes wrong for the verse. Motorola If using for its know-how of smart phones, touch interface and operating system in Android Tablet Xoom correctly

Could easily pass for an Apple product
In terms of external appearance, Xoom could easily pass for an old Apple product. The chassis is black and silver with a slightly curved metal back, then has a look very similar to the apple family. The display of the Motorola tablet is slightly larger with a diagonal of 10.1 inches, which means that we must accept a slightly higher weight. The Xoom Wifi 3G is scoring well on balance 730g which was noticed during our tests. There are also other 28th gr. for the magazine. A comparison: the iPad2 weighs “only” 613g.
In terms of size and weight, the Motorola Xoom is in the same category as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 or the Viewsonic ViewPad 10s.
But, the tablet is very compact with dimensions of 12.9 mm x 249.1 mm x 167.8 mm and – if you use both hands – you will realize that you just keep it a p. The Moto Xoom, however, is more often than all’iPad2 and see the difference of size if you are familiar with the competitor Apple. In comparison, 8.8 mm vs iPad2. 12.9 mm Xoom. There are no grounds for complaint in terms of construction, although it is not forged from one piece, the case gives impression of solidity and compactness.
Connectivity
The Xoom does not offer much in terms of connectivity: almost all the interfaces are located at the center of the base (horizontal). These include a mini HDMI Port (1.3a), a USB port and a connection for optional docking station.
On the upper side, next to the camera, Motorola placed slots for headphones and a SIM card and MicroSD card.
The Xoom can only be charged using the AC adapter. The USB port is only used for data transfer. The Motorola Xoom is immediately recognized as a removable disk by Windows 7 64-bit, but not from Vista. You can, however, download a compatible USB driver in the support section of Motorola. The Xoom can also be used with Windows XP.
Regarding the connectivity of Xoom, Motorola has created the Wireless LAN (WiFi), Bluetooth and the 3G. The wireless network access is done with standard IEEE 802.11 b / g / n and Bluetooth V2.1 + EDR has the specifications.
GPS
The Xoom may also be used as a navigator using the GPS receiver. However, the navigation software integrated Google is still in Beta, but it works pretty well. The GPS receiver is compatible with other apps such as “Google Map with Street View.” You can access additional information relative to the surroundings with the app “My Place”. For example: near cinemas, banks, gas stations …
Input Devices
Xoom screen
The device is used almost exclusively through the display from 10.1 “. Individual apps are started and controlled by one finger. If users want to insert text, displays a virtual keyboard that takes up almost half the screen. The reaction of the virtual keyboard Touch is fairly straight forward. Sometimes it is also too fast, confusing at times as a double tap.
Some apps also support voice input, as an alternative to entering text, recognizing words spoken. The function performs fairly well with the Xoom and Android 3.0.
Entering text using Swipe, with whom we have become familiar with the Dell Streak, is not supported on the Motorola Xoom.
Except for three buttons (volume control buttons and on / off), all other controls are present on the screen. But, there are advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are the number of “function keys” virtual which can be extended according to the requirements.Functions can also be individually modified by applications or operating system.
One disadvantage is represented by the fact that the keys work only when the display is lit.For example, if the Xoom Wifi 3G is in stand-by mode, the user must still press the button on / off switch on the back to use the keys. On devices with similar controls to the sides, at least one of these additional keys can be back on the pad.
The positioning of the controls is moved forward and to the left, such as for the symbol of speech recognition. A quick-start button to skip to installed applications are located in the upper right. The system information, time, and the state of charge of the battery are located on the lower right side. The most important area is the bottom left: here are the icons back, home, task manager and, when available, an icon for options.
Sensors
Additional controls allow the use of the pad. The Xoom Wifi 3G has multiple sensors that react to movement, acceleration, elevation, orientation and volume. These sensors are mainly used in gaming, simulating a head.
Display
Display infos
The brilliant 10.1 “has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (16:9) with a density of 160 dpi. The display operates with a 60-Hz refresh image color depth is 32Bit.
The surfaces of the display are touch sensitive (Touch) and according to the application can also support inputs multi-touch (zooming, minimizing, etc..).
Viewing angles
Leaving aside the question of the reflexes, the display contents can be easily distinguished from almost all angles. Our test image remained bright even at angles above 45 degrees. Even while we move vertically and horizontally non-specific effects have appeared.
The contents of the display are legible when looking from an angle of about 85 degrees. The image is reversed and not exchanged in this extreme position.

Tegra 2 Dual Core CPU nVidia
Performance
A dual-core CPU nVidia works within the Moto Xoom. This processor Tegra 2 (ARM v7 CPU) has a 1 GHz clock and a 2nd-Level-Cache 1 MB. The Tegra 2 is also involved in the graphics output.
The Intel dual-core CPU supports multitasking, with the possibility to manage up to 5 applications simultaneously. If you start another application, the first program will be terminated (first in / first out).
Battery Life
Battery indicator of Xoom Wifi 3G
In order to perform a battery test near real conditions, the display was set to maximum brightness and wireless-LAN and GPS active while the Bluetooth is turned off. Various programs were in operation for simulation in addition to Web-browser and the tools to read the battery status. Various games have been used in the test phase of the battery.
During breaks between the games we have looked for new programs App-Store, read some news and gossip in social networks, and checked the mail through the mail client. The Xoom Wifi 3G has also worked as a navigator while driving to the shopping center.
The result: overall, the battery lasted over 15 hours. The device went into standby from time to time as is apparent from the graph.
WLAN operations (a mix of very different sites), the tablet has withstood 446 minutes, which is approximately 7.5 hours. The Xoom has good results with the Readers Test with minimum display brightness, WLAN module on and reloading a HTML text we have reached 975 minutes, or 16 hours.
We would like to see how long the video projection. Unfortunately we have not found video with a reasonable length that can be used with Moto Xoom.
Overall opinion
The weeks have flown testing of Xoom Wifi 3G. The tablet is a good companion and very pleasant but at the same time has given us some disappointment. Foremost among the qualities: the screen 10.1 “with rich colors, even if this involves considerable reflection pool. Reaction times between the touch screen and activation are very good. Actions depart immediately, thanks to good display although sometimes the reaction is too fast. This is known mainly as they write emails.
The battery life is impressive, the charging time of 150 minutes is reasonable.
As always, after the positive aspects there are negative ones. The Xoom Wifi 3G still must be adapted well to the Android OS 3.01 and must grow through several updates.By testing this device has the feeling that Google and Motorola have been too hasty in launching Moto Xoom on the market.
